Saltwater leak on Mont.-ND border cleaned up

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Regulators say a Texas company has completed cleanup of a 714,000-gallon saltwater spill on the Montana-North Dakota border.

Plano,Texas-based Denbury Onshore reported the spill from a 4-inch plastic pipeline in southeast Montana on Nov. 25. The North Dakota Health Department says the briny water reached the Big Gumbo Creek near Marmarth, in southwest North Dakota. Saltwater is a byproduct of oil production.

North Dakota Water Quality Director Dennis Fewless says the salty water did not reach the Little Missouri River.

Regulators in both states say the company used huge vacuums to suck up the salty water. They say the affected area then was flushed with fresh water.
