Reward skyrockets for killer of North Dakota pony

Bottineau, N.D. (KFGO-AM) The reward for information that leads to the conviction of whoever killed a pet pony near Bottineau, North Dakota has climbed to $24,000.  Bad Boy, a miniature Shetland, was chased down by someone in a pickup, then dragged and the carcass dumped on a road September 24.

Owner Dave Boppre says the severe cruelty of the killing has caught the attention of people from all over the country. Boppre says his pony was like an overgrown puppy.

He says several people, who wished to remain anonymous have made large donations, along with the North Dakota Stockman's Association and the Souris Valley Humane Society. Under a new animal cruelty law that took effect august first, first time offenders can be charged with a felony.

Boppre has been told investigators are working on several good leads.  He hopes the sizeable reward will help break the case.
