Minor flooding expected in the valley

FARGO, ND (KFGO AM) -- River's and streams in the southern Red River Valley are on the rise from heavy rains the past couple of days and minor flooding is predicted.

The Red in Fargo is nearing flood stage at just over 15 feet this morning.

The latest forecast from the National Weather Service predicts a crest of 21 feet early this Saturday.

That's three feet above the point where the river spills out of its banks.

Weather Service spokesman Tom Graffenauer tells KFGO News the forecast will be adjusted as rainfall totals come in.

Minor flood stage causes some lowland flooding along the river cooridor.

At 18 feet, a stretch of Elm Street near El Zagel Golf Course is shut down.

While this is a late crest, it's not unusual.

The weather service says the Red in Fargo crested at 25 1/2 feet October 16th, 2008, 23 1/2 feet November 4th, 2009 and another late crest of 21 feet, occurred November 1st, 2010.
