Washington, DC (KFGO AM) Senator Heidi Heitkamp was a member of the bipartisan group that worked on the compromise that ended the gridlock.
On the Senate floor minutes after the deal was announced Wednesday, the freshman lawmaker said five days ago she was wondering why she came to the U.S. Senate. She said, “I had the same belief that the American people had..this is a place that is no longer is functioning..we’re locked in gridlock, and not able to get things done.”
But she said then an “amazing thing” happened. She agreed to join a 13-member group of what she described as moderates from both parties who worked out what she called “Plan B” that eventually resulted in the deal to end the government shutdown and extend the debt limit.
