Grafton, ND (KFGO AM) A Walsh County Sheriff's deputy has been cleared in an officer-involved shooting.
States Attorney Barb Whelan says no charges will be filed against the deputy after reviewing all reports into the September 3 shooting and wounding of 25-year old Nathan Mcnelis.
According to authorities, Mcnelis pointed a shotgun at several officers who responded to a report of a suicidal man at a farm west of Lankin, North Dakota. The deputy fired 3 rounds. One hit Mcnelis. He was hospitalized for a time and is now at the state hospital in Jamestown. Sheriff Lauren Wild says the deputy was put on adminstrative leave following the shooting but has since returned to the job.
Whelan says it's not been determined if charges will be filed against Mcnelis.
