FARGO, ND. (KFGO AM) -- It will be several months before the first phase of Fargo's estimated $53 million dollar downtown flood protection project starts.
When complete, the floodwall and a levee will stretch along second street from fourth avenue north down to Dike East on the south side of Main Avenue.
City Engineer April Walker says construction should start on a section of floodwall in front of the Fargo High Rise this fall.
Walker says a levee that will tie into the floodwall is planned on the footprint of the Park East Terrace apartment complex, requiring city acquisition of the property.
Construction of a new lift station on second street near first avenue, where the city hall parking lot is will start in August.
Walker says work from Main Avenue north will start next year and will carry over into 2016.
