Controversial expert to address education summit

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO AM) -- The state's largest teachers union is criticizing the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce for inviting controversial expert Michelle Rhee to open their education summit this morning in St. Paul.

Education Minnesota President Denise Specht says challenges facing Minnesota children of color won't be overcome by ignoring voices of parents, community leaders and teachers and instead following a divisive national figure like Rhee.

Rhee, former chancellor of the Washington D.C. school system, has garnered praise from school reformers and criticism from those who say she was anti-union, ignored community input and misrepresented improvements in test scores.
