MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Fire officials say five people have died and several others have been injured in a duplex fire in Minneapolis.
Minneapolis Fire Chief John Fruetel says three children died at the scene of the fire in north Minneapolis and the injured were taken to North Memorial and Hennepin County Medical Center. Two others later died.
The chief says firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire on the second and third floor of the duplex Friday morning. Crews responded to the fire about 5 a.m. and three alarms were called. Officials say the fire displaced 15 people.
