BISMARCK, ND (KFGO AM) -- U.S. Attorney Tim Purdon says the recent capture of Mexican drug lord "Chapo" Guzman is a "major major" development for law enforcement.
Guzman was believed to be in control of up to 80% of the heroin trade in the Midwest, with much of it coming through Chicago and Minneapolis.
Purdon tells KFGO News drugs from Guzman's cartel are on the streets right now in North Dakota--many of them in the oil patch.
Purdon says any time a cartel leader like Guzman is captured, it's good news in North Dakota.
He says Guzman was at the top of many "most wanted" lists across the country.
