BISMARCK, ND. (KCND AM) -- North Dakota Mineral Resources Director Lynn Helms says his main job is to regulate the state’s oil industry - and he thinks his department has done a good job with that.
Helms was responding to a letter sent by the democratic leaders in the state house and senate, suggesting that he's wearing two hats - a regulator and a promoter of the oil industry - and that job should be split in two.
Helms says he’s often asked - because of his expertise - to speak on issues in the industry, and to make predictions.
But he says he doesn’t consider that part of his job as “promotional.”
