Perry Farrell ’s new musical theater project, Kind Heaven , will keep him from making new music with Jane's Addiction for a while. The singer says the show will be his main focus for a while, so the band will be taking a break.
"This is a pretty massive undertaking," he tells Rolling Stone . "Jane's Addiction is going to take a hiatus. It'll be a couple of years before you see Jane's again."
Farrell also offered some new details about Kind Heaven , which he says will be an "immersive" production featuring electronic dance music written by the singer and French producer and DJ Joachim Garraud . "It's a musical, but it's written with a house sensibility," he reveals. "If [Italian dance-music producer] Giorgio Moroder had written a musical, it would sound like this."
Farrell adds that the show will be set in southern Thailand, and will focus on "a love story" between a Thai soldier and "a female worker" who spend some time in a Buddhist monastery. "That's where they bring the civilians they want to take out of town, and the military holds up and protects the monastery," he explains. "It's completely fictional, but I wouldn't doubt it for a minute."
While the singer hopes to strike a deal to put on the show somewhere in Las Vegas, he plans to showcase the music from the project on an upcoming DJ tour with his wife, Etty .
