DULUTH, Minn. (KFGO AM) -- The 30th running of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon is under way in northeastern Minnesota.
Thirty teams of dogs and mushers left Duluth yesterday afternoon heading northwest toward the Gunflint Trail.
President Jason Rice says they hope to avoid moose along the trail and not just because they're aggressive in the winter.
Rice says the dogs don't mind the extreme cold.
Ten of the teams are going the entire 384-mile marathon leg while 20 are taking the 112-mile mid-distance leg.
The finishers are expected Wednesday morning in Duluth.
