FARGO (KFGO-AM) More homes, bought out by Fargo to make way for permanent flood protection went on the auction block Tuesday. 37 homes were up for sale, the largest batch so far. Many are in up-scale neighborhoods on Fargo's south side. The homes are to be moved or salvaged and demolished.
City Project Engineer Nathan Boerboom says the process will help flood fighting efforts and construction of levee systems that will allow the city to remove some homes from the floodplain when new FEMA maps are adopted this summer.
Last year, Fargo spent between $18 and $19 million to acquire 45 properties in flood prone area's.
