Chris Martin  has been asked to write the opening anthem for Prince Harry's first-ever Invictus Games -- the sports competition for wounded service personnel. The  Coldplay  frontman was tapped for the songwriting honor and also has agreed to perform the song at the opening ceremony, which will take place in London on September 10.

According to the  London Evening Standard , the four-day event is expected to attract a crowd of 5,000 to the South Lawn of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in England's capitol city.

Coldplay has history of lending a hand to those with disabilities -- the band members played a full show to  close the 2012 Paralympics , during which they invited disabled drummer  Mat Fraser  onstage to play during "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face."
