Chances for significant rainfall for next couple of weeks across region

GRAND FORKS (KFGO AM) - National Weather Service senior analyst Mark Ewens says there's an "enhanced risk" of heavy rain for the next couple of weeks across the region. Ewens says it's a continuation of the two decade-long wet cycle.

He said "This is reminiscent of some of the more recent years we have had to deal with excessive rains and unfortunately, it seems the pattern is continuing."

NDSU soil scientist Doctor Dave Franzen monitors conditions statewide and says the situation is unusual because this wet cycle covers such a wide area. He says sections of southwest North Dakota look like the Red River Valley "with buttes."  He says the rain has recharged soil moisture but presents many problems for ag producers.

Fargo's picked up more than 3 inches of rain so far this month, and for the year, precipitation is nearly an inch and a half ahead of normal.
