ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - St. Paul police say neighbors came to the aid of a woman who fled naked from the apartment of a registered sex offender now charged with beating and sexually assaulting her.
Neighbors told police they heard noise and then saw a woman running naked from the apartment. Two covered the woman with a blanket and called a security guard.
Ramsey County prosecutors have charged 53-year-old Michael D. Burns with criminal sexual conduct, terroristic threats and domestic assault by strangulation. A criminal complaint says Burns punched the woman in the face and choked her until she passed out.
The woman told police Burns had been stealing her Social Security checks.
Burns denied stealing the checks and said he had consensual sex with the woman.
