Bret Michaels was rushed offstage Thursday night just as a concert at the Palace Theatre in Manchester, New Hampshire, was getting started, thanks to a dangerously low blood sugar level.

The Poison frontman, reality show star and solo artist is a Type 1 Diabetic, and was said to have been suffering from "extremely low" blood sugar levels, according to his guitarist.

Pete Evick wrote on Michaels' Facebook page  after the incident, "This is a message I never imagined I'd have to post. Tonight...3 songs into the set Bret had me sing a song as he rushed off stage. In the 9 years I've stood next to him, I've never seen a look like the one on his face as if I was a complete stranger," Evick recalled. "One of the crew returned instantly to notify me that Bret's blood sugar was extremely low."

The musician and producer said of Michaels, "He returned to the stage only to announce that he could not continue. As you all know he is a health fanatic and fiercely monitors his blood sugar, he basically had to be dragged off the stage in his sickest of conditions. When I rushed to the bus he could barley speak, but begged me to apologize to the fans and seemed only concerned for them."

Later on, Team Bret posted, "Sending a shout out 2 all the paramedics both on & off duty who assisted Bret tonight. No words can thank you enough for ur help."

Bret survived a brain hemorrhage, a "warning stroke," and underwent surgery for a hole in his heart in 2010.
